FAQ

What is CASA Intensivos?

CASA Intensivos are short, high-impact Spanish programs that run over two weeks, Monday–Thursday. You meet in 3-hour blocks, twice a week, and customize your experience by choosing which 1.5-hour classes you attend in each block (Grammar, Conversation, Everyday Spanish, or Culture: Como agua para chocolate). You can take 1–4 blocks (12–48 hours total).

How many hours will I get?

Each block is 12 hours total. You can book:

  • 1 Block = 12 hours
  • 2 Blocks = 24 hours
  • 3 Blocks = 36 hours
  • 4 Blocks = 48 hours

You choose how many blocks you want when you register.

Can I mix in-person and virtual classes?

CASA Intensivos are offered with both in-person and virtual options. In most cases, you will pick one format (in-person or Zoom) per block so that you have a consistent group and instructor. If you need to switch for a specific date, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

What level of Spanish do I need?

Intensivos are designed for a range of levels, from low beginner to superior. After you register, our team can help you choose the most appropriate grammar/conversation track for your level. If you are brand new to CASA de ESPAÑOL or haven't taken a class with us in a while, take our placement exam to determine your level. Also, check out the level descriptions to view the topics that will be covered.

What is the culture class with "Como agua para chocolate" like?

In the culture class, we use Como agua para chocolate as a lens to explore Mexican culture, family, food, and history. You’ll read and discuss selected excerpts, watch clips (where possible), and work with vocabulary, themes, and cultural topics in Spanish at your level.

Is the extra conversation practice from regular CASA quarters included?

For CASA Intensivos, all of your practice time is concentrated within the scheduled 3-hour blocks. The additional informal conversation practice that is included during our regular 10-week quarters is not part of this intensivo format.

What if I need to miss a class?

Life happens! All intensivo virtual classes are recorded, and you’ll have access to those recordings plus materials through the CASA Portal. Make-up options may be limited due to the short time frame, but we’ll always try to help you stay on track.

What do I need to bring?

For in-person classes, bring a notebook, pen, and your preferred drink/snack. For virtual classes, you’ll need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera/mic (laptop or desktop is recommended), and a quiet space to speak Spanish. Any readings or handouts (including excerpts from Como agua para chocolate) will be provided digitally via the CASA Portal.

How do I know which classes to choose in each block?

When you register, use the options and notes section to tell us:

  1. How many blocks you’re taking.
  2. Your preferred schedule (Block A, B, C, D).
  3. Your two class choices per block (Grammar, Conversation, Everyday Spanish, Culture).
  4. Your level.
  5. In Person, Virtual, or No Preference.

Our team will review your selections, make sure they fit your level and goals, and send you a confirmation email with your personalized Intensivo schedule.
